Hi I'm Tom Stickney Golf Magazine Top 100 Instructor and today I want to talk to you about where you hit it on the face. Now a lot of times when we're around the greens were hitting these flop shots whether the out a good lie out of deep rough where you hit it on the face it's going to heavily influence how much velocity is given to the golf ball. As you can see here I'll take the pitch shots earlier and my marks are right here in the center OK if you think about it that's the center of mass right here which is right where I was hitting the golf ball so that tells me that that ball is going to have the most amount of rebound coming off the face because that's where all the mass of the club is.

That's fine if you want to have a certain type of speed when the ball comes off the blade however let's say you've got a touchy shot a very advanced way to hit the ball get a hit out here on the toe and when you hit out here on the toe you can see there's not a lot of mass out here. So when you hit the shot at the same setup that you would normally have ball up blade open but if you come through you're going to come a pull the club in this way and shorten that swing arc so you can catch it more off the toe kind of looks like this, and when you do that you'll see that the mark right there with right off the toe the ball comes off it comes out of the higher little softer. It is a very very advanced shot to play you don't use it that often but if you need it you have it. So experiment with at the ball different places on the blade especially out towards this toe if you want to look at more of a dead shot coming off the blade and you can have a lot more fun.
