Tom Stickney – A Top 100 Golf Teacher
In this week's tip I want to talk to you about the downhill lie. Now obviously when the ball is sitting on a downhill lie two things happen the ball tend to come out a lot flatter and a lot lower. So it's not going to go is for the 2nd thing is going to happen as you can attempt a swing this way fall down the slope and tend to pull the ball to the left. So we're going to do 2 things that counteract this line. Number one we're going to put the ball a bit more forward our stance that's going to give us the trajectory that we need. Number 2 to stop the ball from going to the left I want to employ kind of a punch type of golf swing where we kind of guide the golf ball down the fairway.
So put the ball just a touch up in the stance about an inch or so not much more than that, and then all I'm going to do is use a punching type of motion. So I can kind of guide that golf ball down and make sure that I don't hit it to the left, and you can see with this abbreviated follow through. It's kind of a safety squeeze to kind of make the ball go where I wanted it to go. Not make this full fledged motion and hit a big low rip and pull into left field. So remember put the ball up just a touch and make that little punch swing and off this downhill lie you're going to find the golf ball closer to where you wanted it to go.
