Tom Stickney – A Top 100 Golf Teacher
In this week's tip I want to talk to you about spinal tilt and how it controls how you enter the sand. A lot of times people set up their bunker shots just like they do their full shots they lean back and while this is fine for a certain type of bunker shot it tends to move the low point backwards, and when the low point is moved backwards people tend to stick into the ground or they pull up through impact they hit over the back of the green. One thing I'd like for you to do in the bunker take your spine from here and center it.
If your center of the spine it insures of the club goes into the sand and that helps you to at least get some sand in between the ball the blade and that gets you on the green instead of 40 yards over the green. So the best way to do this is to take the spine from here and set it so the spine is centered maybe even a little leftward leaning and then make your normal golf swing, and you can see that particular shot I went into the sand. So the biggest issue about spinal tilt in a bunker is if you tend to hit your bunker shots like that then I'll guarantee you you're leaning back. Center that spine you'll go into the sand and you can have a lot closer shots around the green.
