Tom Stickney – A Top 100 Golf Teacher
This week's tip I want to talk to you about a very important concept and that's flight in your wedges. You know we all too often we have people they just come up here they had these big towering high wedge shots and it basically gives you less control over the golf ball. You know if you think about it when you get a punch shot you know and you hit that thing low and it kind of chases in there you're misses or a lot tighter it's very easy to punch out where you want. Consequently if you stand up here and you take a wedge and you swing it hard you can you know it can have a scatter gun effect if you're not careful. So any time we have a pin that's in the back of the green or we have a little bit of green to work with as we have right here.
We're going to use a lower flight wedge and that's kind of what I call a safety squeeze and kind of squeeze it in there a little bit low little punch shot and that helps us to control the golf ball. So how we're going to do that we're going to put the ball back in our stance or a put our hands the weight forward and all I want to do is make it a little abbreviated of golf swing and kind of flight that ball in there just a little bit lower. So here we go ball back in the stance hands and weight forward hit that little flighted wedge, and as you can see that ball came off a little bit flatter and when it comes off a little bit flatter my miss parameter is going to be tighter it's going to take that one big hop in check and life can be pretty good. So remember flight your wedges for tighter wedges.
