Tom Stickney – A Top 100 Golf Teacher
In this week's tip I want to talk to you about using spin versus landing angles to stop the golf ball. Now I know it looks good on tour when everybody comes in here and they said it they come in here and they hit that that little spinner that you just saw. The ball kind of grabs a bit yeah that's great for style points, but for the day and a day out player doesn't work so well. Remember spin is great when you have optimal conditions you know they have the right lie you got to have the right green you got to have the right slope and things like that.
It's not the best way to play these shots we want to make sure that we use the landing angle and all the landing angle is is making the ball come in more vertically. So on this particular shot we just want to get the ball up in the air just a little bit higher. So it lands a bit softer and obviously you can see the difference and how that ball landed. One ball comes in like this and it's not going to pitch forward quite as much one ball comes in like this and it's going to pitch forward and have to grab. If it doesn't grab you go way past the hole. So remember landing angle and stating that landing is a much better way around the greens than using that low checking spin shot. Though while it looks good on T.V. is not very good day in and day out.
