Hi I'm Tom Stickney Golf Magazine Top 100 Instructor and today were going to talk about gear effect. Sometimes when you hit off shots you feel like you make a pretty good golf swing and all of a sudden you see a little curve this way that way and if you look down at the base your driver you might see that you caught little bit on the heel or a little bit on the toe. You have to remember that drivers have gear effect if you miss the center of the blade if you catch it more on the heel of your driver the ball is going to tend to cut.

If you catch it more on the toe of your driver it is in the hook now this gear effect can really cause some issues in your ball flight if you don't know exactly where you're hitting on the face. So what I would suggest you do is you get some impact tape put on the face your club or go out and get some doctor scholes foot powder spray it on the face your club hit a few shots see where you're hit if you catch at the center you can predict your ball flight if you start catching on the toe in the heel you're going to have some problems gear effect.
