Hi I'm Tom Stickney Golf Magazine Top 100 Instructor and today I want to talk to you about your shaft flex and how it compares to the transitional tempo. A lot of times people just look at the shaft flex and they look at their overall swing speed and what you have to remember is if you're one of these people like John Daly who has just jerked a club down from the top you'll see a lot of stress in the shaft. When you see a lot of stress in the shaft you might need to play with something that's a little bit more firm.

If you're one of these players like Greg Couples who the club tends to gather speed on the top and it's a very smooth transition you can get away with playing a little bit lighter shaft. So remember your transitional tempo heavily correlates to your shaft flex so if you have 2 players that have exactly the same clubhead speed overall but one jerks it down to the top and one is a little bit slower from the top you might have radically different shaft flexes. So remember grab one of your teachers at home and take a look at that shaft flex get on the launch motor see what that says and I'll guarantee you you'll have a lot better chance hitting the driver if you have the right shaft of the club.
