Now let’s get to the fun bit of this video series. Now we've talked about balance. We're talking about how to store energy and how to fire that club down into impact. But now let's talk about dropping alignment sticks, but also unleashing the power that has been stored over that is being transferred down in towards the ball. It’s a nice simple drill that we can actually use for this. But this is probably the most violent part of the golf swing in many respects. This is the part where you're contacting the ball and you're really firing that club through with as much energy as you can.
Now you can practice this by using an alignment stick. Now the alignment stick is important to practice with simply because it makes a noise as you swing it through the air. It makes that whooshing noise, and you can use that as a guide to really see where you are applying power throughout the golf swing. So we've already spoken about how we want to be storing power using the wrist hinge. We’ve already spoken about how we want to be transferring weight through the ball, and we’ve already spoken about how you want to be extending those arms down towards the target.
But how do you know if you are really using that energy? How do you know if you are really firing that club through with as much power as possible. Very, very simply if you get yourself set up, maybe get set up to this almost like it's a bit of a driver just to give you that little bit more kind of potential power. But coming and moving weight, storing your power and as you come through the ball you really want to be trying to generate a big whoosh. The louder, the higher pitched and the more dramatic the whoosh sound, the more energy and the more power you have transferred down into that ball.
Now you can move this kind of drill on a little bit more. If you want to come through and then try and hold this position here where that club has extended down towards your target and your arms are nice and straight. It's not a bad way to go because it will really just demonstrate how your arms are straightening through impact. But a very simple drill to use, getting yourself while coming through, and just trying to get that big old whoosh as you hit, unleashing that power into the ball.
