What is the best down swing for straight golf drives? Now assuming your back swing has been nice and full and proper and please refer to other videos on the website to make sure your back swing is in the correct position. Your down swing has a massive impact on where the ball will actually go because it actually transfers the square club face as it should be at the top of the swing, down into impact, and it also delivers all the power that you’ve generated in the back swing as well.

Now to make sure that your down swing is correct there are a few checkpoints that you can actually follow. So again assuming that you’ve had a nice full big wide turn and you’re on plane at the top of the back swing the positions you want to be hitting on the down swing are as follows: The hip should bump slightly forward towards the target before the hips begin to rotate and that will cause the body to be dragged along for the ride. Now the first point that you want to make sure that you’re hitting is here, where the hips have began to turn and the butt end of the club is pointing down towards the ball, down towards the target line. From there you can continue to rotate the body until this point here; where the butt end of the club is pointing down towards the target, the club head is lagging here behind, and level with the hands when viewed from behind and the body can continue to turn. If it goes into there and it can continue to turn from that position, the club face should be square at impact but it should also have enough power to send the ball down to where you want it to go. So get that nice full back swing and then hit those positions on the way down. After impact it’s a matter of extending those arms and coming over to a nice full balance finish position to kind of deliver that final punch and that final blow to the ball. The set up that nice full back swing, try and hit these positions on the down swing, and hold that nice full follow through position. And if you can hit everything get everything in the right order you should be able to hit some nice straight, accurate, and long golf shots.
