During this swing tip video we’re going to discuss what the correct club head feeling is for you to have when you’re swinging your golf club. Now when you’re working on improving your golf swing, you’ll be thinking about a lot of different technical movements and working on improving the club technically. But it’s really important that you don’t lose sight that it’s the club head that strikes the ball. So having the feeling of where this club head is and knowing what the club head is doing is really, really important even though you’re still trying to improve technically.

If you’re just thinking too much about your technique and you’re not focused on the feeling that you’re getting from the club head, number one you’re not going to hit really good golf shots and also you’re gong to lose vital information as to why the ball flights that you’ve just experienced happened. So initially what I’d suggest you do is set up away from the ball and to start to get the feeling of the club head, just start to make some practice swing with your eyes closed. And you’re closing your eyes just start to notice and put your focus onto the club head and let your awareness follow where that club head is and what it’s doing.

Start to move quite slowly just keeping the eyes closed really help you to focus on the feeling in the club head, and where the club head is as it swings around you. So you start to get a better feeling for that club head. Okay now we can’t hit golf shots with our eyes closed, it will be quite a difficult challenge for us to do. So the other thing we can do is if you place some face tape and buy some strike tape onto the face of the golf club there, I’ve just indicated with a little cross sign there where the center of that golf club is. So what we’re going to do is we’re going to start to, when we hit the golf shots to feel where that club head is connected with the ball.

So absolutely on that cross we’re going to score that as a 10, that’s the highest score we can give it, that means it’s right out of the middle. As you start to strike away from the center the number that you’re going to grade that shot at, the fell you’re going to give to that shot from the club head is going to move up to a zero if it’s right at the edge of the club head. So we might call 10 here and then as you move further away you go to nine and eight then seven. So we’re going to hit some shots and we’re going to give the feeling of the ball of the club head a number.

But not only are we going to give it a number for how off center we felt it was, we’re going to say if it was towards the toe or towards the heel of the club or if it felt like it was too low down on the club, if the club head was connecting too high and we’re going to see the strike too low down. So start to make some golf shots, start to make some swing with the impact tape on and then strike the ball working on achieving a 10. So feel where the club head is, feel the strike. So now we see that ball go out think to yourself what number would you give it for centiveness, how did it feel, what did the club head feel like as it struck the ball out.

Give it a number how far away from the center it was unless you feel it was right at the middle, was it towards the heel was towards the toe, did it feel like the club struck too high upon the ball and then once you’ve given it that number once you’ve said I think it was an eight and I think it was slightly towards the heel, check with the face tape to see what the face tape gave you, okay. If you’re starting to hit out of the center its a 10 but again as you can see there I was slightly towards the heel, slightly away to the center so I’d call that an eight heel. So the next shoot I’m going to work on improving the strike from the center of the club, I now know that I’m slightly towards the heel, I need to just nudge it slightly towards the middle of the club, so I’m going to focus on the club face, focus on the club head and its movement, and really work on bringing that club head back to the center of the ball.

And that’s a really good way to practice on improving your feel for what the club head is doing during the golf shot. If you start to work on that you’ll become much more aware of what is happening as the club strikes the ball and why you’re experiencing the golf ball flight that you’re seeing.
