When it comes to the putting stroke, making sure that the putter moves in the correct arc is crucial. Now, a lot of people are trying to move the putter straight back and straight through. Now what really happens when we go straight back and straight through is a little bit like this.
So if I was to put my putter right on top of this stick here, and I took my setup. If I tried to move the ports as straight back as I go straight through, it's no longer looking at the target, it's a little bit closed. It's closed because the putter wants to move on an arc. So when we're moving the putter away in the backstroke, the more it moves off the ground, the more it would arc slightly in. Then as it goes back down towards the bottom, it gets back to its original place. As it moves through in the through stroke, it moves more off the ground, it moves more arc inside.
