Chipping Flop Shot Tips by PGA Teaching Pro Ged Walters

One of the really, really difficult shots to execute, around the green is the flop shot. It looks fantastic, and everybody wants to be able to play it really, really well. And when it comes off, it's amazing, but it's one of the most dangerous shots as well. So if you don't quite get it right, or you don't know exactly how to play the shot, you can get into a bit of trouble. So let me show you how.

The keys are ball, position, loft and speed. If you haven't got speed, and remember it's only a short shot, you're not going to execute correctly, so you've got to be brave with this shot. So we're going to widen the stance a little bit. We're going to have the ball more up towards your lead foot. A little bit of pressure into your left side, your lead side, my left side. I'm just going to soften my knees a little bit, cause that's going to help me. Then when I opened the club face and I get this bit of the club exposed, that's going to help me ride it along the ground. As I throw the feeling of my trail, hands over me and my right hand along the ground.
