When it comes to alignment, it's the one thing that most people get wrong all the time. Now, although the golf ball doesn't know where you're aligned to, it really influences how you deliver the golf club and then the overall outcome and shape of your shots. Now the biggest problem really stems from what you tell yourself to do.
Because most of you out there watching this are going to be telling yourselves to look over your shoulder. And there lies the biggest problem, because if I stand here and I think about the 200 yard marker in a distance. Well, if I stand and I placed this alignment stick here, and I go to look over my shoulder, well, my shoulders are going to turn to allow my face to be in position. So my brain hasn't said, look where I'm facing. It said, look over your shoulder. So my eyes get drawn to the direction of the shoulders.
