Tom how do read greens I'm not quite sure what to look at? Well what I tell people to do is when you walk up on the green the 1st thing you want to do is look at the 4 corners of the green look at that part of the green it's higher than where I'm standing down here look at that part of the green as compared to this part of green I can see that it kind of goes up like this and it drops down to this green kind of goes like this. Then I look at the overall topography of the ground as I'm kind of walking up is there's a big slope over here there's some water over there so it kind of runs this way so I kind of know what's around me. Then as I take a look at the ball come behind the golf ball and I kind of see that that got the hole is a lot higher than where I'm standing so I know this is uphill I can see that this particular part of the green is a lot higher than that particular part of the green so I know it's probably going to move more right to left. So once I've kind of understood those you know you can take the time you can also walk around the hole if you want to do that but for the most part that should give you a pretty good idea of what the green is doing.

Now what I kind of do is guess and so as I look at this I kind of see that the it's probably about a lot on no maybe 6 inches out on the right. So what I'm going to do is now I've read the green I'm going to line up the stripes of my golf ball about 6 inches to the right come back in and I see that line to go on about 6 inches to the right of the hole where I feel like it's going to break. Now what I'm going to do from here is set my putter down 1st set my body parallel left of that and now I know that I'm lined up correctly and the great thing about reading greens is once you set these flow lines so to speak then you have a good opportunity to make a good stroke but when you come in here and you don't know if this thing is going left or right right or left it's up or down you're going to have a lot of trouble and when you have a lot of trouble reading greens get into 3 putt a lot and when you 3 putt a lot it raises your score a lot. So remember read the greens walk around the hole look at the 4 corners of the hole see if there's any brutal anomalies on the green like a you know ridge or a buried elephant so to speak and then once you figure out what you're trying to do line that stripe up. Once you set your putter down get everything parallel left of the putter strike and then all you have to do is make your particular stroke and hopefully if you do that the ball will start out online if you read the green you can have a lot better chance to make putts.
