Hi I'm Tom Stickney Golf Magazine Top 100 Instructor and today were going to talk about angle of attack when it comes to pitching. You know all too often people get around the greens and they try to help the ball the air they want to help the ball in the air they hit the equater of the golf ball and it goes blazing across the back of the green. So the 1st thing people say is well I need to hit down on the golf ball I need to go into the ground a bit more I need to make sure that I hit the ground in front of the golf ball while that's all fine and good what you need to understand is it there or varying levels of angle of attack.

There's an angle that attack that is basically 0 there's an angle of attack it's a little bit down and there's an I got attack it's a lot down. So what happens is the lie heavily correlates to the type of angle of attack that you need to employ here on this nice little puffed up lie that I have right here I don't have to chop down this ball I just need to gently hit down on it and the ball jumps out air. Now if I have a little bit tighter lie or a lie that is sitting down more sure I'm going to have to go down and after a little bit more so I get that ball up in the air. So remember the worse the lie is the steeper that you must hit down on it to get the ball up in the air when it comes to pitching. So remember the angle of attack is absolutely huge for you not hit blazing golf balls that go across the green but remember I didn't say to dig a trench but I didn't say come in like this either so you have to find a happy medium based on the lie.
