What is an Arm Only Swing and How to Correct this as a Senior Golfer (Video) - by Dean Butler
What is an Arm Only Swing and How to Correct this as a Senior Golfer (Video) - by Dean Butler What I want to talk about here is an Arm Only Swing. If you're thinking of what I've just said the Arm Only Swing we're referring to too much going on with the arms. So to show you what I mean if I set myself up to the ball and I just stand here and swing the club out with my arms. Notice that the arms are moving away from my body and because they're moving away from the body the only thing that can happen now on the way down is for the club to then come into the body. And when you have this movement of going what we call out to in there's only two things that can actually happen. The first thing is the ball can start to the left as a fair right handed golfer and stay left which is called the pool, but it could also go left and then start to move to the right which is what happens for most golfers and its called the slice. So this is basically what happens when we just swing in with the arms. So what we need to think about now is how we could get around that. So we'll explain what it is. We've explained what it causes. The other thing from that swing by the way is that when we swing the club or the arms out to the end we'd coming in very, very steep. And when we come in very, very steep we can catch either behind the ball so we catch it heavy decelerates the club and we lose distance. So what we're going to think about now is right we know what, what the problem is. How do we go about curing it? So if I set myself upto the ball and then from here just focus on here just rotating the body so from here set yourself up. Remember it was the arms that was going out first. Setup here and concentrate on turning the hips and the body so from here just turn and everything goes back in one piece. It looks easy. I hope from home and it is easy. It is easy so let's do it again. If you think I'm not sure about that just do in other simpler way. Just imagine setting upto the ball and imagine somebody standing here just level with your feet, and you want to say hello but shake their hand. I stand here, pop my hand out, and I go hi, nice to meet you. Look what just happens to my body. I'm standing here, concentrating not on the swing, but shaking somebody's hand from here. Here I go shaking somebody's hand. Look what's happened. We've gone and done the complete opposite of what we were talking about before when we were just going out with their arms. Very, very simple drill, stand there, set yourself upto the ball, have somebody here, shake their hand, look what's happened. That creates a feeling and that's what we're trying to do here. It creates a simple feeling that you can go and take it to the practice ground. Take it to the golf course. Enjoy your golf. 2013-11-04
