When you next out on the golf course in the practice range; if you find that you’ve been struggling with your chipping, then have a go at trying to improve this by actually putting but rather than putting with your putter try it with the rescue club or a utility club. So we are going to play that shot here because the utility club has got slightly more loft than the putter fit has, it will just help you get the ball in to the air. So it will look like you hit a really good chip and then have a much more effective result with it if you are struggling with your up chill chipping. So how to play that shot; play the ball in the middle of the feet and then pull the left foot directly back about four inches just you help to slightly rotate it towards the target it’s going to open your stunts up but you’ll retain your alignment with your shoulder so you’ll still become very accurate with the alignment on the shot.

Okay we are going to lean slightly on the left side and we are going to hold like we would for a putter we are going to get the arms nice and extended and really hold down the handle for extra control. We are going to keep this straight line from the left shoulder down the left arm to the arms and through the shaft in to the club head and then we are just simply going to put putting stroke on to the shot. So we are going to go an equal distance to the right and then an equal distance to the left through the ball with the club head and we are going to work on having a nice smooth rhythm as we do that just as we would for putting. So we want to work on rocking the shoulders; so the action is going to very much come from the shoulders, we are going to keep this straight line, we are going to move back and through so the shoulders are going down and up in a rocking motion rather than using the wrist to hit the shaft. Okay so very much like a putting stroke so we’ll set up we’ve got the weight on the left, the hands forward and we are going to take the club back, take the club through and the ball will just pop up in to the air really nicely because we are using more loft than we’d have for the putter. So the next time you are out on the course if you are facing an awkward chip and you don’t have a lot of confidence try just putting but use the rescue club and you’ll finally get a much more effective and accurate result.
