Okay. I want to talk to you about connected swing. First of all, connected swing, what sort of image does that portray? Well, connected, hopefully will be sending out a signal where everything is going together, everything is going in unity, all going in the same direction and what I want to do now is to talk about this connected swing on the backswing first. Well, what are we supposed to be doing? The whole idea of a connected swing is when you set yourself up, that the club, the hands, the arms, the shoulders, the trunk, the hips, all move together at the same time, so from here there is a connected swing. Everything is going together. Here is a disconnected swing.

When the arms go and then my body goes. So, you see there, that’s a disconnected swing. Yes, it’s disjointed, isn’t it? It’s not smooth. It’s not all going together, so a connected swing, hopefully you got this picture in your mind, of going back where the club, the hands, the shoulders, the trunk of the body, very important part, with the hips and the shoulders, we turn everything slightly to the right as we go back and everything goes together. It’s a connected swing, so that’s what we’re talking about, connected swing. So, we do that on the backswing, we go back, everything is together and we’re stalling energy in this position.

So, on the way down, what should start the downswing, what should get to the golf ball? Right, here is what we need to work on. We go back, everything is connected and to start the downswing, the hips should be going first then the shoulders, then the hands, and then the club head. So, from here it is the hips, shoulders, hands, and club head. That is a connected swing. That’s what it’s all about and to practice this is purely and simply a case of just working on getting everything together. That’s the word really here I want to emphasize, together, everything back together. So, an easy way of a drill, let’s pull the club across your tummy button, put your hands on, set yourself up and then just turn the club back. Wow! That was so easy. Everything is going together. Everything that we just talked about has gone back to get us from here, just turn and everything is here, and we get back to the ball, you can see exactly what we’re talking about, from here the hip starts, the shoulders, the hands and club.

So, that is a very simple drill to give you the feeling, because that’s all we can do here is give you a feeling of what to do with connected swing and once you’ve got sort of feeling, that connection, go to the ball, don’t start with a full backswing, start off with a sort of half swing, see what’s good for you. For some people it may be better off just to kind of go to sort of 9 o’clock, some people to 10 o’clock, feel what is comfortable for you. At the end of the day we’ve all got different shapes and bodies, different ages and basically we don’t want you to be trying to work your way through a swing where we’re going through to 10 o’clock if you find your back is hurting or its like an ache, find whatever is your sort of connection, sort of place and from here just work on that, but that’s a very, very simple position to put that across your bellybutton, but yourself in the position and just move back and move forward and that will give you the feel of what a connected swing is all about. So, go away and work on it.
