What Is The Correct Right Hand Position At Impact For Golf Shots (Video) - by Peter Finch

What is the correct right hand position at impact for golf shots? The right hand plays a fantastically important role in the swing. It has the major contributing impact in actually the clubface being square or open or closed at impact, but it also delivers a great amount of power to the actual shot. Now at impact what you want the right hand to be doing is pretty much palm facing down towards the target. If the palm rotates and faces inwards towards the body the club face will close, if it’s facing out towards the right of the target the club face will open.

Now there are a number of different ways to actually practice this, you can actually just hit balls using your right hand, practicing turning the club a little bit open on the backswing as it kind of rotates with away with the play, and you can see here at this point my palm faces forward at impact it faces towards the target, and then as it releases through my palm faces out behind me. Now a great little drill you can use for this, you don’t need the club and it’s just called the clap drill. You can put your left hand down pointing at the ball in your backswing turn away and get your hand into this position here, but turn through the ball and at impact just try and get your palms so they and they clap into that position. So your left hand down at the ball, up to the top of the swing, and then clap into impact. And if I get that position there I’d take my grip, it’s going to be in a perfect position. So if you are concerned about where your right hand is or isn’t, it impacts as it were, swing down, use the clap drill, and then from there just get your hand in the same position, and you will see if you are in the correct position here. So give the club drill a go if you want to know your right hand position at impact.
