What Is A Dominant Right Hand In The Golf Swing (Video) - by Peter Finch

To have a balanced golf swing you need a balanced grip. However there are some players who have dominant hands. Now this often happens with right-handed players when their right hand becomes too dominant. This is very much just the case of during everyday life you try and control everything with their right hands and they get away with is just fine. Unfortunately within the golf swing if the hands aren’t working in harmony there will be an imbalance within the golf swing. Generally speaking, players who try to use the right hand too much can have a slightly strong golf grip on that right hand. Now what I mean by that is as you’re taking the club within your hand, your grip, even if your left hand is in a good position, if that right hand becomes too strong and it becomes too much underneath the club that right hand will become the dominant force within the downswing.

Now there are many issues associated with having a very, very dominant right hand. The most common is ball flight issues, so left shots, right shots; you can still strike the ball relatively well if you have a dominant hand. So it really does nail down into what’s happening with ball fight. Now during this video series we’re going to look at really how you can identify if you have that issue the types of shots that you’re going to be hitting, and how also it can affect strike. We’re also going to be looking at how you can take the hands a little bit more out of the golf swing, and actually get a little bit more of a balanced technique. Because if you are just trying to hit the ball too hard with the hands, that is going to lead to problems anyway. If you’re trying to hit the ball too hard with one hand that’s going to really lead to a lot of problems very, very quickly, so it’s much better to have that balance within the technique. So if you are someone who feels that they have a right hand problem, if you are someone who feels like that are too dominant with the right hand, they may be gripping it too strongly, what we’re going to do is really hopefully get some videos which are very much zeroed in on your swing issues.
