Why And How To Create A Fully Extended Arms At Golf Impact Position (Video) - by Pete Styles

Teaching golfers as I do on a day-to-day basis and also watching golf and watching the best players in the world I sometimes see similarities in golf swings. I sometimes see differences. One area that I probably see the biggest difference between the average club golfer and amateur golfer and the tour playing professional is the extension they achieve through the golf ball. Very few club golfers really get this fully extended position through the ball here like the professionals might get. And sometimes we don't even notice the difference because at that point in the swing everything is going flat out, hands and arms are moving incredibly quickly. And we’ve probably started watching the golf ball by that point. You know we stand here. We start to look up. We see the ball. If you're watching a tall player on TV, it probably cuts away from that swing and we start to see the ball flight.

And we don't necessarily see exactly where they get to, but I spend a lot of time watching golf swings in slow motion. And we can actually see golfers coming through the ball in this position as the classic club golfer position, a big separation between the elbows, big pulling in with the arms towards the body, and again the tour pro right out here. The added benefit of that extension is really in terms of releasing the power. So the golfer will build power on the backswing but then we need to release the power down towards the target. We need to have good extension down towards the target, allow the hands and arms to rotate over, and create a good staying down strike rather than a lifting up and pulling up. And this is pretty much true for most of your golf shots, be it a drive or be it a 7-iron or be it a wedge. We want to see that really good extension through the golf ball. So if you feel that you're struggling with your extension, you feel like you are in this chicken wing position where your arms are pulling in, this next little mini series of videos is really aimed for you to improve your extension through the golf ball.
