What Right Hand Position You Need To See At Impact (Video) - by Peter Finch

When focusing on impact, there are many different parts of the body that you can look and say, this needs to be here. This needs to be there. One of the key crucial parts is what the right hand is doing. If you're able to get your right hand into a good position at the point of impact, it should allow you to create some very, very good impact characteristics. Now what position do you want to see the right hand in at the point of impact? Generally speaking if you're trying to hit, I've got an shot here. You want to be seeing that right palm to be pressing downwards towards the ball. So if there's still to be some angle set into the right wrist.

So I am going to get myself set up here this yellow golf ball. I'm going to move down into the point of impact. And you can see here that my shaft is leaning ahead of the ball. It creates a slight kind of inside of a K shape that between my shaft and my right arm. And my right palm is pressing downwards towards the ball. If that right hand doesn't have any wrist angle in, and is more of a straight line I'm going to be moving through this ball and hitting up which isn't ideal with an iron shot. If it’s more of a driver with that ball position more central you still want to be having that same feeling coming down through the point of impact where you would be with an iron. And because the ball is further forward in the stance the hinge and the right wrist at the point of impact won't be as extreme. But generally speaking as you come through, you want to be seeing that right palm pressing downwards, that angle to be created in the wrist and the inside of a K shape between the shaft and the arm. If you can keep it in that position and then to hold it just through the point of impact you should have ensured a downward angle of attack, You should have ensured that the wrist angle is coming into impact and secure and you should be able to ensure a much more ball first and then turf impact with the irons.
