What To Expect From A Golf Swing With A Tucked Right Elbow (Video) - by Peter Finch

When you're actually hitting shots and your right elbow is tucked into the body, what can you expect to see? And one of the benefits that you can expect to get from actually having it in that position. Well having your right elbow tucked in as we've already spoken about, will give you much more of a connected takeaway. So having that right elbow into the side like this as the club moves away, the arms will become disconnected. So keeping it in will keep that body nice and kind of connected in that takeaway. Again, not body moving weighs one motion. As you get to the top of the swing and that right elbow remains in, it won't enable -- it won't have to force you into down swings and violently reconnect.

When they violently reconnect, you don’t want to be breaking your ribs. But as you get to the top, if that right elbow is already in a position which is close to the body you can then just drop it down into a position which is nice and close to the side. Now the benefits that this will give, you can get into this position with that right elbow nice and close to the side on the down swing and then start to move into the ball, just notice what happens to my path here as it moves a little bit more from the inside. Now with the right elbow which is connected to the body, is not a given, is not 100% guarantee but if it's close to the side of the body as you come down, as you strike the ball you should be hitting it with a bit more of an inside path. An inside path with a slightly closed club face to that path but open to the target is going to give you that illusive draw shot, which so, so many people do want to see. So yes having that right elbow connect to the side, will give many benefits as far as connection is concerned and as far as consistency your swing is concerned. But it can also give you access to hitting a little bit more of a draw shot. To find out, just give it a go yourself, that’s the only way you're going to know for sure. So go and practice it, use the drill, use this video series and good luck.
