What are the key movements of the right arm during the golf swing? Now the right arm plays a very, very important role during the golf swing because it really delivers a lot of power, but also it delivers a lot of accuracy with the club moving through impact. Now there are a number of key kind of checkpoint areas you can actually go through to make sure it is in the correct positions. First of all, address - you want to make sure that the right arm is hanging down pretty much from the shoulders, it’s not being pressed up, it’s not tucking into the body, just that it hangs down into this position here.

As you move the club away you want it nice and extended and at the point that the club reaches parallel with the ground, the right arm is slightly straightened it’s not yet started to bend. From this position as the wrist actually starts to hinge upwards the right arm then bends and folds and tucks into the side of the body. If it comes away then the golf swing will become disconnected. So at this point here you need the right arm nicely tucked into the side. And it continues to remain tucked into the side as the club moves through. It only starts to straighten at the point of impact. And as it straightens at the point of impact, that’s when it really delivers a lot of power and a big blow to the actual ball. Now you can actually practice the most important move which is keeping the right elbow in just by putting a glove or something else just in under the right arm to make sure that its stays in throughout the backswing. If you don’t have a glove and you certainly can’t use in a competition round, what you can do is grab a little bit of material under the right arm tuck it underneath so you can feel it, get set up make sure you extend fully, but then allow that right arm to remain close by the side throughout the backswing and the start of the downswing. As you actually come through impact and the arm extends, it will keep extended until the very actual pinnacle of the through swing where it will probably bend just a little bit at that point. So if you want to know how to use your right arm, go through those key checkpoints, practice them and make sure they’re there once you get out on the course.
