Putting Feel Controls Pace by Tom Stickney

A lot of people when they come to the putting green the dropped balls down to 5 feet and they practice. Well that's great but that's working on the line you know where the putt starts but speed is a vitally important process on the putting green if you can control your speed it's going to be very difficult to control your line. You can see I have a club down here and have a club down there obviously this is more uphill that's more downhill all I'm going to do is practice trying to lag the putt right to the club without going over. So you see I was a hit that was just a little too hard some hit this with a little bit easier and what I'm doing is I'm honing in my feel.

Now the great thing about speed is anybody can control their speed as long as you practice but remember if I'm sitting here hitting this 15 foot uphill putt that's going to give me one feeling. The moment I turn around I hit it downhill 20 feet I'm going to have a radically different feeling so remember when you're practicing your speed stand here hit some short ones uphill hit some long ones down hill hit someone's across the green hit some super long ones that way and really work on getting the feeling of what pace the greens are running. Cause if you can control your speed you can have a lot of trouble so work on your speed whether you use this or you find super fast or super slow putts you find big breaking putts those different drills will help you to control your speed because remember speed kills on the putting green.
