So one question often is asked by amateurs is “what is the best club to chip with?” Well a lot of the choice in chipping is really determined by three factors and one of call is the three L's okay. So the first of those L's is how the ball is lying don't just take you favorite club until you've assessed the lie so when you arrive at the golf ball if it sat down you are going to have to hit down more. Which may mean you're going to require a more lofted club if it's sat up you can brush the ball off and sweep it through can use a straighter face club. The next thing you're going to factor in is what is the landing area like. Have you got a lot of room to land it or is the flag tucked behind a bunker which requires more elevation and you to land it softer so that's going to again determine the next choice of club.

Then the next thing that the final thing that will determine is the loft of the club so based on the lie and the landing area. That's going to give you a guide of which loft of club you're going to use. So let's assume the ball sat down I've not got a lot of room so in that instance I'd use my most lofted club my lob wedge. However the other end of the spectrum if it was a links course there's a bit a room and I've got plenty of room to run it. Of course then I can use my straighter face club. So remember the lie the landing area that's going to help you choose the loft and you may have a particular favorite that you're more confident with but do practice with these three or four clubs you're pitching wedge your lob wedge in a seven or an eight iron you do that you'll see how the ball behaves and you'll get a lot better understanding of the choice of club.
