What Is The Cause For Shaft Vibration At Impact - Senior Golf Tip (Video) - by Dean Butler

So have you ever felt that sort of a vibration traveling up that shaft into the gripping to your fingers. Have you ever felt that sort of feeling? I’m sure you have, especially on a cold morning; there’s nothing sort of more painful. So what causes that vibration that travels all the way up into your hands? Well very simply it’s a mishit; we’ve mishit the ball. In other words we’ve not hit the ball from the middle of this club face which is the sweet spot, the area where basically the sweetest shot should come. If we misshit to the left or to the right, then it’s a twisting sort of sensation actually happens. And when that twisting happens it’s causing a bit of a shudder, and that shudder is like a vibration that’s traveling up there. So you might think, well, okay that sounds very simple, and hit the ball in the middle of the club face, but how do I know if I am over then the vibration? Well if you put some ghost tape on the face or some talcum powder on golf balls, we’ll get to the imprints on the club face on tape on the face. And you’ll be able to see quite quickly where you’re hitting the ball from. Obviously that tells you where you’re hitting the ball from and then you can understand why the vibration is kind of coming back at the shaft.

So how do we go about putting it right? What is that magic word isn’t it is practice, practicing the right things. And if you’re hitting the ball of the toe, well predominantly that means from the top of the back swing you’re actually throwing the club outside to in and vice versa if the ball come up the hill. But there are many other things that can cause this mis-hitting. So the best thing to do is to actually identify what you’re doing, go out there and practice with what we are talking about, if you’re hitting off the toe, you’re throwing the club a little bit from the outside. So maybe put a golf ball just outside the ball that you’re going to hit and then focus on actually hitting that ball and if you catch that ball or a tee peg then you know you’re throwing the club. So it’s not a complex thing, it’s just a case of kind of eliminating things as we go along. So if you find yourselves struggling, the best thing to do is go down to the senior PGA Pro and get them to spend half an hour out there and very quickly he’ll be out to be able to identify exactly what is causing that problem. But remember the question at the beginning was the vibration that goes up is caused by mis-hitting that sweet spot.
