The splash shot explained - (Video) lesson by Pete Styles and Matt Fryer

Splashing the ball out from a bunker is a skill that the better players make look easy and this is not always the case for many club golfers. Some golfers when faced with a bunkers shot expect to struggle and therefore lose confidence. Hopefully having watched this tip and taken on board the suggested improvements golfers will see the handicaps and their scores improve and their enjoyment increase.

So Matt joins me in the bunker now to look at one specific type of bunker shot which is going to be the splash shot. Splashy Matt to start with just talk us through this splash bunker shot what's it going to do and what is it going to look like when it lands. Yeah so a splash bunker shot we're going to be taking a bit of sand not too much not too little just the right amount will be popping up nice and high as you can see here there's been a high on this lip of the bunker out there.

So the splash shots designed for the ball to come out very high well and very softly and just trickle on a little bit it's not one that's coming out flat and running a lot. You are going to see more height in the shot will be the main thing and the splash concept is the idea that the club comes down and splashes through the sand and splashes onto the green. Exactly so club selection could be quite important here a lot of golfers might think well I'm in the sand so sand wedge but you know another option. Yeah I've got a lob wedge so it's my most lofted club because I'm trying to hit a lofted shot and I'm even going to add a little bit of loft on to this throughout the actual tip so you know go for loft it's going to get us up in the air.
