Create A Better Impact With Early Release Drill – (Video) Lesson by PGA Pros Pete Styles and Matt Fryer

In this video tip PGA golf professionals Pete Styles and Matt Fryer firstly explain what an early release is and how it can be detrimental as a golfer. Then we can start to look at the process of how an early release is happening. Once we understand this we can then set about reducing the release by creating and holding more lag in the golf downswing. By focusing on what the bottom hand is doing during the golf swing, we should ultimately be able to lead into a better position with less early release and ultimately more consistency and accuracy with your golf shots.

Now let me ask you I've got a drill for you here this is where I'm going to teach you to do something the right way by show you how to do it the wrong way right now in just a little trust and you know like the reason why I'm doing this with Matt is because a lot of golfers struggle with release and lie and the fact that they have lies often create like and then they release it too early on the resulting shot is one that goes up into the sky and if I can show a golfer what that looks like it gets into exaggerated doing it badly then I can ask you to do the opposite build an awareness of what you're doing when I'm in a vat to your file this is a correction go ahead. OK and we're going to wait that impact think way to really demonstrate the concept of this ball going in the air, and this is where a lot of people have the problem because we know a pitching wedge or a sand wedge is not going where we want to go high in the, but sometimes when golfers find it too high not to get a concept they have a lot of them so your job here is without changing your stance and trying to scoop this ball up in the air as hard and as high as you can but what you might feel with it is that you might not get a good contact for me it feel that there are a lot of risks from what you're saying not to try and do it automatically I think we're going to look at it with my wrist.

First catch up and actually that ball yes there was a horrible sound it was a ground because we're on a mat we got away with that but he took us on the golf course on a wet day not predicted it would have gone on the whole probably would have got he did it would have gone further not winning big but it's not. Now if you feel that's part of your game early release that scooting exercise now we're going to look at the correction that connects something up again one important here we don't alter the ball position at this stage at this stage that your normal Yeah now in the previous one you talked about releasing early and flicking here yeah so I call that was putting my hands a lot of great hope that's a great feeling hold on to that feeling and now do the opposite let the hands lead all the way down the clubhead behind the house and should win the race for the gold ball what's that face going to do hey look what's got a lot in all this is I look down at it from this position now it looks a bit like my a sign post when I was doing this before thinking that faces staring me right back at me so it was the right time we would now see a lower flight right now hopefully if we do see a lot of what we should also hear and see a better connection and concept. That I'm understanding that the clubs filled the floor after it hit the ball Yes So we tell the club come down the wall if it's the 1st one was given and then ask a follow up. All flew well yeah a lot lot further really would have probably stopped quicker on the green because that would have reduced a bit more but yes definitely I felt real solid as a hitter but I was a really good demonstration of having awareness of what the early release is and what the office is the best exercises as well so if you're struggling with liking the club directly if you're scooping the ball up in the actual suffering from the heavy contact that you did on the 1st one triumph over exaggerate the wrong thing 1st one into this the roof of the driving range if you're not driving right then change it then when the race or the hands get on top of it squeeze it lower and hope your pitching and your iron game will improve just like Matt did it over those 2 shots.
