Right, you’ve got a short putt. You are only a foot – 2 feet far away from the hole and you are petrified. You are absolutely scared out of your mind, you are going to miss this putt. Past experiences, you have found that you have done something weird with your hand you have yanked it, you have missed to the right, you have missed it to the left and you feel like a complete and utter idiot and you want to solve it. This is the best way to solve it. It’s a grip issue. So our studies have shown that the yips is a little bit of almost a spasm in the hand that makes the golf club twist on impact. So as the club comes into hand, it’s almost as a spasm and it will twist and open or close a club face, and it’s a killer and you stand there and you are thinking, how can I miss such a short putt? You know I can hit the ball so long and well off the tee and it will just completely destroy you around, destroy your confidence, it will make you a worse chipper but this is going to cure it.

So what we need to do we need to take our right hand out of the shaft completely, so it’s the hand will almost twitch when we are coming in to hit. And a good way of doing this is an alternative grip method. And it’s what we call the claw. So what we are going to do we are going to set left hand on as we would do normally. So left hand on the shaft, thumb down the front and you can place your index finger down the side. Or keep it on the ground, it’s up to you, but keep it on the -- I keep it on the side. Now, the thumb and the index finder, sorry, the index finger and the middle finger sit on top as the thumb just sits around the back.

So if I show it from this angle, I’ve practically taken all off my palm off the club, and I have taken these two fingers off the club completely. So now I’m only holding it with these three, almost pinching the club. That way if our right hand does spasm, it’s not going to affect the club, it’s not going to affect the actual club face angle when we hit. Still making the same stroke and you will hold more of these one or two factors that you have been so scared about. So don’t worry, there is problem -- there are other people that have these issues but this grip will solve that and next time you hold more putts your scores are going to shoot down, you are going to chip more confidently and you are going to play better golf. Think of the claw grip.
