Should I hit down on my golf drives? Now through out the back from sand wedge all the way up to the driver because clubs are different lengths and the ball positions are different, the angles of attack into the ball are different as well. So with the sand wedge throughout the irons you are on slightly descending blow which will create a divot create some back spin and get a true trajectory on the shot.

However once you start getting to the driver, this is where you actually need to start hitting the shot on the up swing and not on the down swing. If you start striking down on the driver, there’s a whole cacophony of disasters awaiting you, for example, if you start to strike down on a driver, the angle of attack steepens and the actual loft on the club drastically reduces and with the driver with the loft drastically reduced, you could end up hitting the driver with about four or five degrees of loft which is going to go absolutely no where but will also increase the actual dispersion on the ball as well especially after the right hand side. Another thing which can happen if you are too steep on a drive is you can actually miss the ball, go underneath it and cause a sky shot, and that’s very destructive it not only damages the club but it just fires up the ball straight up into the air and you get no distance. The correct thing you should be doing with this is meeting the ball at a very slightly upward arch, now what this means is the ball should be just inside the left heel that address and as you swing into impact, your swing center should be slightly behind the ball and your club should be clicking the very top of the tee as you come through. And if it clips the very top of the tee, and your swing center stays behind the ball, then you will have hit the ball on an output angle of attack and you’ll sweep the ball away with the true loft of the club presented. But once again that ball just inside the left heel, ball position forward, clip it off the top of the tee and away. And if you can get that lovely true angle of attacking to the ball, you will definitely achieve more distance and more power on your shots. If you do start to strike down on the golf ball, the ball could come out lower but it will also have very inconsistent spin, so the most consistent way to do it is to sweep the ball on top of that tee, a lot more fairways and a lot more distance to wait if you take that approach.
