What is a knockdown golf shot? A knockdown golf shot is very similar to a punt short and it requires the ball to be flighted slightly lower than usual it will go slightly less distant but it will be a lot more controllable especially in windy conditions. Now to hit a knockdown shot a lot of work can be done at the point of setup, how you position your body. Now for a knockdown shot you want to be gripping the club slightly further down the grip than usual the ball position here for my seven nine which would be slightly forward of center moves back, so it’s in the middle of my stance, my body weight would be positioned slightly more to my front foot and my hands will go just ahead of the ball so the opposite of the my left thigh.

Now to actually on the knockdown swing I will take the club away not with much wrist hinge but I’ll actually only swing to a three quarter position. And because of this distance will be reduced which has to be bared in mind if you are playing and is approach to a green. So I am in the setup position, I take it back three quarter length swing not a massive amount of wrist hinge, turn through keeping my weight forward, and just try and return my hands ahead of the ball impact. I will try in mirror my follow through to match my backswing, slightly three quarter in length which again will cause a reduction in the distance. So a little bit of weight forward hands ahead should back three quarters swing with not much wrist hinge and then just a little sow and I’ll finish. So a knockdown shot very useful to use when the conditions are windy, or you want a little bit of more better control over the distance you hit the ball.
