One of the secrets to being a good bunker player is being able to interpret the lie correctly. It's fine if the ball is lying nicely like this first ball here I can use my traditional bunker set up with the ball forward wider stance and I can brush that just elevate it nicely. What if that's rained over night or you're in a bunker it's a lot tighter the lies a lot firmer or it is sat down slightly. Well in this instance what I'm going to suggest you do is go to one of your other wedges. Your gap wedge or you fifty two or you're pitching wedge where it has got a slightly sharper leading edge, and you almost need to play this shot like a traditional chip shot. So you're going to form a narrower stance you're going to lean the shaft forward a little bit more by leaning the shaft forward that's present in the front the sharper edge of the club to the sand.
Which is going to dig it a little bit more and elevate it and with that tighter lie what you don't want to do is balance into the sand them bounce up and skull the ball off and thin it. So from this stance a narrower stance ball more forward we're not going to have as for the swings a normal bunker shot we're actually going to play it more as a say like a chip shot where you're squeezing the ball a little bit more this way you can control how the ball's going to behave off the club face and when it lands. So I'm going to place it back in my stance further forwards a shorter stroke give it a little pop I've driven that out nicely. As I've said the choice of the club did a lot of the work for me so you need to assess the lie interpret how the ball is going to behave and then choose the appropriate stroke that you're going to play for that lie. I think if you try these practice them you'll start to see they can get a lot more control of the these awkward lies and particularly when that rain has been raining overnight and you get those hard lies you'll find it's a lot easier.
