For many golfers the frustration of having an over the top golf swing can radically reduce their enjoyment of the game as they fight an out to in swing path which for a lot of golfers will create sliced golf balls particularly off the Tee shots. In this video tip PGA professionals Pete Styles and Matt Fryer will explain how utilising a simple basket drill can encourage the swing path to be more from the inside which in turn should help neutralise the ball flight.
So we've probably all heard the term over the top have definitely heard that a few times and what does that mean Pete what does it mean when we say over the top. What are we over the top of? It is a part of the downswing that relates to the plane of the swing and sometimes even relates to the backswing. We say that the downswing is over the top of the backswing or over the top of a plane OK from this camera here to talk about a swing plane that the angle the club should be traveling up and down on.
If it is something that's on this side these over the top of the plane this side is underneath the plane but what we're talking about today specifically over the top and that's actually a lot more relevant for most golfers. OK and if we are over the top what generally will we see what shots is it over the top producing? Over the top in this phase it must mean that the club is there for traveling from out to in through the impact area. So often going to see a club that travels from so in through this area left of the intended target a right handed golfer from that position really we've got a couple of options one would be if the face is left as well we might get the ball staying left if the face is square we might get the ball cutting back a bit.
