So similar to looking at the position of the club on its way down into the gold ball, we now look at the position of the golf club as it exits through the ball towards the follow through. So if this is my target line square to the map points in this way, I've moved my basket now. So it's about two feet ahead of the golf ball and inside the line. Now the point here is that if I've got the golf club coming over the top too much, chances are it's also going to be coming inside the line too much here. And if the target line is there but the swing path is there, and the face is square, I'm going to be putting quite a lot of spin on the ball, tilted back spin or side spin that would curve the ball too far from left to right. So my target line being here, I want to place the basket so that the club can come straight forward for about two feet. And this time just a little bit more room so I give myself maybe three fingers of shaft lean away from the basket so the club can come straight through for about two feet, and I've got three fingers of shaft lean. And that would allow my club to travel on the path that it should travel of hitting the golf ball and turning through slightly but not diving back across and cluttering into the basket.
And for lots of people, just having the visual of the basket there would sort of scare them and encourage them to swing out a little bit more which is a good correction if you're slicing the golf ball. So it's a great drill just to make practice swings with the basket here. Lift the club up, take the club behind you a bit more and hit away from the basket in the follow through. Don't let that club pull in with your hands and your arms coming into your body, that's quite a bad slicing tendency, it's going to throw the club much more out in front of you. And again it can feel awkward because of some hitting balls down the range, I'm stretching much more to the right hand side. And my fear is that the ball will go to the right if I'm slicing the ball and I will need to hit to the right. But if you've been slicing the ball, chances are you've been hitting to the left trying to compensate with going right. And actually being down low that makes the problem worst. So if we set up here with the basket, don't be tempted to pull in and hit the basket. Be tempted to throw the club more to the right hand side, get rid of your slice that way. Utilize that drill to eradicate your slice.
