Slice Golf Shot Drill 5 Aim left and hit straight (Video) - Lesson by PGA Pro Pete Styles

For a lot of golfers, that slice the golf ball. We know the swing paths is too much on the outside line, we're trying to encourage you to get it a little bit more on the inside line. Now if you've watched the previous tip related to this one which was about hitting blocked shots down the right hand side, that's a really good exercise to get the swing path on the right line. But if you struggle with that exercise and you keep getting drawn back to hitting the ball onto your target, we can emphasize that drill a little bit more and so it will turn it up a little bit. And this time I'm going to do something different, I'm going to get you to hit the golf ball in the straight direction square to the mat, straight into the target line in a distance when you're on the driving range. But to encourage the in to out swing path line, I'd like you to aim your body left.

So actually setting your body upon the orange cane, but hitting the ball on the white cane. So I would aim everything in my body down the left hand side, but then try and hit the ball down the white line down the white cane. And that would encourage me to come way back on the inside line, follow that cane down that line. And effectively that would create a bit of a pushing shot, so the ball is going right of my body line. If I don't bring my body line around to straight, that will then point further to the right, the ball would go further to the right. And that dropping the club in, bringing it from behind and pushing out is the first part of correcting your slice.

So if you can do the hitting the ball right of target exercise fine, if you struggle with that exercise, keep the target line as straight and square but point your body left. When you're still getting the same ball going right away from the feet line, swing coming more in to out pushing exercise, but this is just a little bit more sort of turned up, a little bit more tuned up, it's slightly harder to do but it gets you from the inside and gets you pushing out right even more strongly. Practice that with the body aiming left and the club going straight, then move your feet round to the straight line and you should feel the, really emphasize that in to out swing path and stopping you coming over the top. Practice that to get rid of your slice.
