The stance that you adopt when you take setup to a golf ball is fundamentally important because it's where you start your whole swing from. Now for a lot of golfers they don't really take a great deal of care and attention over their stances pretty much put my feet down where a feel comfortable and we will call that the stance. Actually we need to read into it a little bit more than that because like I say it's important if we don't get this bit right chances are the rest of the swing is going to be great either.
As I position the club in behind the ball the trailing the bottom edge of the club needs to be largely flat to the floor so that gives me my distance away. The club pops up at the sign go here and then I can utilize this to make sure my stance is in the right place if my stance is too near the ball I simply don't have enough room I'm going to struggle with posture here and with contact. Likewise if my stance is too far away I can't reach the golf ball either so my stance needs to be in a position where my knees are flexed and my club can lower down on my front and I wanted to be between one and 2 inches away from the golf ball.
