Impact the moment in truth in golf where if you get everything right at impact that moment of truth. You're going to hopefully produce good golf shots and if we look at top professionals there impacts are similar not exactly the same but very similar, but many amateurs are misled into thinking that if you get your address position right and return there is automatically going to be a good shot. Well it certainly won't be unless that was the maybe with a putter because the ballistics involved in hitting the ball a decent distance mean that your body is going to move so impact and address are not the same thing. If I've addressed it here with a mid iron shafts pretty neutral hands are just left at the center of my body here at impact. That's going to look totally different my hips are going to shift forwards about 4 to 6 inches and rotate more, my weight is going onto my lead foot my hands on the top of the handle here, and going forward about 4 to 6 inches but my elbows tucked in more the shoulders are more tilted.
So this isn't the moment your passing through to allow you to strike that ball properly. So address looks like this impact looks like this how are we going to feel that. Well there is 2 or 3 little drills you can do you can do the ice hockey drill but if you just slide your right hand down near the metal here the end of the club and practice coming down above the ball to impact is if you're hitting a slap shot with an ice hockey stick this will give you a feel of where your body should be at impact. Conversely you could also try if you've got an alignment cane just practice putting the cane here behind you on the floor and it was like a paintbrush dragging along drag it along to a finish this will start to give you a feel for what the body should be at impact, and that's why professionals when you watch them with mid irons and so on they'll take a divot the divot is the consequence of the impact. They're not trying to take a divot that what they're trying to do is swing down and strike the ball. Well because the body's in and passing through this correct position that compresses it allows them to get some energy on the ball. So remember address and impact on not the same thing let's hit a shot and see we can make that work. That was great you could hear that nice compression and so work on those drills I think you'll see your impact improve and if that does your shots are going to improve.
