As a lady golfer is you’re struggling to hit a three wood you should really consider replacing it with a four wood. Because nowadays modern lofts have got very strong, that means the face angle has just got a lot straighter making you think that you hit the ball further. But in actual fact all that’s happening is that the lofts have got stronger so really a three wood now has a loft of a driver and it’s difficult to get it into the air. So for modern three woods you’d see a three wood loft going from anywhere between 13 degrees for a very strong loft to maybe 16 degrees. But a four wood, you’d see the loft at more 17 or 18 degrees. Now having that little bit more loft and little bit more face angle will help you get the ball airborne. And to hit the ball further you need to get the ball open to the air. So as a lady golfer and lady golfers tending to have slower swing speeds, average swing speeds for a lady with a driver is 65 miles an hour so it’s going to be less than that if you swing in your three wood or your four wood. So if you’ve got that lower swing speed, face angle on loft is really, really important to help you get maximum distance.

So with the lower swing speed, consider swapping your three wood which might be 14 or 15 degrees, and replace it with a four wood which is more up at 17 degrees or maybe even 18 degrees with that four wood. That extra little bit of loft if going to help you get a higher launch angle and get that ball open to air, and the more the ball is up in the air, the more it’s going forward and the further you’re hitting it. So have a look at the Thomas Golf Website, they’ve got a great collection of Fairway Woods and especially the higher lofted ones and you’ll see it really does make a difference when you put that club into your bag you’ll hit it a lot further the forward because you hit it higher than you would hit the three wood.
