Make Sure the Clubhead is Outside the Hands for Senior Golfers to Achieve a Correct Takeaway (Video) - by Dean Butler

Okay I want to talk about the correct takeaway and how we actually achieve it. So what we have done here we have setup two sticks, you can put two clubs down. One represents my feet alignment and one is also the actual target, where you want to strike the ball down the target line. When we setup to the ball, again, we are just working on the takeaway and nothing else. What we want to do is we want that golf club here, to take the club away with your left hand and your left shoulder. The shoulder is just a takeaway, remember, the left shoulder pushes the club away, but keep everything in one line.

As we take the club back, we want the club to follow that track going back here, and till we get to a point here, where the club and the hands are running nice and true and parallel with the feet at the bottom here. So they are running almost on the top of it, okay, so let's show that again. From this position here, the shoulder, the arm, everything in one line, let's concentrate on the takeaway. It’s all about what is a good takeaway. So from here, to the club back and you can see this point here, where the club is now horizontal to the ground. It’s running nice and true to the feet, and that’s how we actually get to our position, so push away with your shoulder, your arm, your forearm, push that club away, lots of width and that’s where we want you to be in. So this is a very, very good gait to actually seeing if we are in the right position. So let's have a bad position, and you can see here, bad takeaway, we have missed the line. So again, follow this line here as we take the club back, follow it back, hinge your wrists up and you can see here, the club in the hands are nice and level at this point here. And that’s all I want you to focus on, is the takeaway. The most crucial part of that backswing is that takeaway. If that’s wrong, [Indiscernible] [0:01:52]. Work on that, so it’s a very, very simple tip and you can actually see what you are doing. Are you in the right position or you are not. But the way you are working on, I think you will see some good benefits.
