The concept of steering the golf ball might seem a bit alien to some people because you understand that once you've hit the golf ball you have no influence over what it does there where it goes. You can't actually steer it down the fairway but the steering implies that we're going to try and be manipulating the club just before impact to try and hit the ball as straight as possible. and it happens to golfers quite often when they're nervous when they're anxious or particularly on narrow fairways if we manage in a shot down here we've got trees on either side of golf or can often feel like well if I swing that way it's going to go in those trees and if I swing that way it's going to go in those trees. So if I kind of just push it down the middle and maybe I've got a good chance and often we find that golfers who try and push the ball down the middle it really doesn't work for them they're actually going to get bad contact and bad swing.

So the last thing we want to see a golfer do is trying to sort of steer one down the fairway and keep one straight what we should do instead is he's become front about making the swing that we would normally make if that's normally a good shot and hits the fairway and we can add a couple of the little tiny key changes to our set up that might just make us a little bit straighter even if we do lose a little bit yardage and the first one of those we just need to grip down a little bit. So we take our normal grip we drive from the top of the grip but if we just hold an inch or inch and a half lower down and then bring the bottom hand in as well you can see my hands and move down the grip a little bit that makes the club head a little bit easier to control of the club a little bit shorter I could then make a slightly shorter back swing I could also have the ball slightly nearer to the center of my stance all three of those changes should just encourage a little bit more accuracy on the shot but the key to this is that I still then hit the ball with a good degree of confidence and I don't deliberately try and steer it so effectively I'm committing to my decision. So I rely on myself up towards my intended target I move the ball back an inch I grip down an inch and I shorten my swing a little bit as well, and by doing that I can keep the ball nicely in play and nice and straight but I don't really feel like I steered the ball towards a target. I still had a decent swing got around to with the even finish position but it was all just a little bit more controlled than normal.
