If you analyze your round and notice that you taking quite a lot of three putts when you’re out in the court you can really get your scores lowered by making sure that you eliminate those three putts and three putts mainly come from a lack of distance control or not being able to control the speed that you’re hitting that first putter. The first put doesn’t get close enough to the hole, it putts too much pressure on the second putt and then you end up missing the second putt so what we are going to be looking at here is improving your distance control on that first putt to make sure that you’re touching your feel or getting you so the ball is finishing really close to the hole and you’re just able to tap that second putt in. Putting down the three-putter quite a lot.

Try the following drill when you’re next out practicing. What we do is take two tee pegs, place them about six feet apart on the green. We are just going to do smaller version of this here so that you can see what the drill is because this is a really effective drill. So I go for about six feet apart, you don’t need to have the hole involved, push the tees into the ground or just place them on the ground because you’re only using these just to show you the area that you’re going to play the game in and score it. Okay, so what we are going to do is that we are going to move to the distance away from this area that you would normally have your first putt so if you think about 20 feet from the hole or possibly more then practice from that area so you’re improving the putt that’s specific to you as an individual. What I’d now do is hit the first pole so that you need to get it past the first tee peg so it scores if it finishes between the two tee pegs but the trick with this drill is, on the next put you score if you hit past the first put but not past the end tee pack again so if you hit your first put so that it goes past the first tee pack but it finishes really close to the end tee pack, you’ve now got no room left to store with the second shot so you’re only ever going to score one and the idea with this drill is to get as many balls into this area without going past the end tee pack, it’s possible. It’s really going to improve your touch and feel because you can’t just hit the ball at any speed, you’ve got to be quite accurate with it so don’t allow the ball to finish too close to that far tee pack. Work on hitting the ball so that it only just finishes past the first tee pack and now we’ve got all of this room here to start to load the next ball up so it’s clear with the next ball we need to hit past this first one but again j\not past the end tee pack, then with the next ball we need to hit it past the second ball so we’re always hitting past the last put we’ve had but not past the end tee pack so if I’m trying to score here now, we’re going to go past this putts but not past the end tee pack so I’ve now scored again and so on and we’re trying to stuck as many balls into it as possible so we’ll come up putting drills that really will improve your distance control and if you work n the distance that’s appropriate to you for your first put, you should find that your touch and your feel improve massively and that you’re leaving yourself just to tap in with that second putt, and will eliminate those three putts.
