Let me take a couple of minutes to look through the rail in the golf club shop, the pro shop or the discount store, and have a look at all the different types of irons that are in there to realize that all these different irons must have a different market that they are targeted towards. We generally break it down into three specific targeted groups, one would be the elite players, the tour pros, the elite golfers, they are generally going to look at a bladed type of golf club. Now a bladed club generally is a smaller profile head without the cavity back in the back. So a bladed head is generally going to be aimed at better players who need less forgiveness but more work ability. Then we have sort of players’ clubs, middle market clubs, clubs that generally have a small cavity in the back and offer a little bit of forgiveness and actually what you’ll notice is, I’m pointing at my own club as I say this and a lot of good players actually use clubs that have a little bit of forgiveness in them. Now most manufacturers will make two or three different ranges of clubs, within the range that I use this is the middle iron market and it’s because I don’t play a great deal of golf, so I need a little bit of forgiveness in my shots, and I don’t mind admitting that, I’m not into making this game any more difficult than it needs to be.
Then within the range of the sets of clubs that manufacturers make, they’ll generally be the game improvement iron, the bigger iron that you might see on the rack. Now it’s probably going to have a bigger sole, a bigger top line, it might just have a bigger head overall. For a lot of golfers when they look at that club, it might actually look like a slightly less attractive club. It looks bigger, it looks a bit junkie, doesn’t necessarily sit behind the golf ball so well. But there must be a reason why somebody would use one of these less attractive golf clubs to play with and for a lot of golfers actually looking at the bigger head gives them a bit more confidence and certainly when they hit the golf ball it actually gives them a lot more forgiveness on off center hits, so when they hit on the toe, the heel of the top the bottom, the club is going to perform better than for example a bladed club or a less forgiving golf club. Now one of the things I would suggest is try out these different types of irons, try out a blade, try out a mid market club, try out a game improvement iron and see which one works best for your game and also which one you like to look at the best. These next few videos are going to help you understand the benefits and the drawbacks, the pros and the cons of game improvement irons.
