So, for this next exercise and drill, we’re going to work on the downswing that works well with the super wide back swing. So, the first exercise was positioning the back here, positioning the golf ball here, so as we reach back we can just about touch the back on the back swing to maintain super wide hands and arms. And then we see golfers get nicely up to the top and then they change that left arm position, that front arm position by bending it as they pull down and chop on the golf ball, which is a bit of a foul because it ruins everything we’re aiming for with this wide swing and these firm arms. So, what we could encourage you to do now is reach back to the golf [bag] from here then stop your swing, but then swing forwards and through.
Clearly, I’m going to have to rotate myself around to be able to do this down the target line, but I’m going to be able to reach my club on the way back towards the camera and then throw the club forward as far as I can through and it really help me understand the importance of having good straight arms, so I’m able to hit the ball down my intended target line by having a super wide back swing and really good extension through the ball. Now, it’s important that we then learn that drill and build it into a full swing that we don’t change everything in the transition. So from a good setup, nice and high and tall and wide to the top and then from here, keep the width as we pull down and as we extend through the ball, we don’t want to get to the top of the back swing here and then collapse the arms and ruin everything on the down swing. And if you can utilize this stretch back, stretch forward drill and exercise, you should really feel the benefits of keeping your hands and arms together and straight through the impact zone stopping the elbows pulling apart and you should be more consistent and better ball striker with that exercise.
