Use (Video) To Provide Proof Of Poor Shaft Angle In Your Golf Swing (Video) - by Pete Styles

Now when a golfer is searching for an improvement method, they are searching a way to find out what their golf swing looks like and how to improve. We use different methods. Sometimes we might just be able to look at our own swing we might be able to see what's going on. We might be able to use a mirror, so where that camera is, I could have a mirror and I could look and I can check my positions and I can see what's going on and that’s a great way of getting some feedback.

You might even ask your mate or you're playing partner "hey, what position was I in there, what does that look like?" but the one position that is very, very difficult to acknowledge is where you were at impact and actually that’s probably the most important position to notice, because as I'm coming down to impact, everything else that’s gone before it is irrelevant, if my impact position is bad or good what went before is less important. But the impact position is the hardest thing to actually see or feel because it happens so fast. So I think the best method here is to get a video camera and ideally get the best video camera you can afford, because what you will see with a good quality video camera is the frame rate and the shutter speed is going to be a little bit quicker, which therefore, when the club head is traveling down towards the golf ball, upwards of 80, 90, maybe even 100 miles an hour, the camera wont blur so much. If you’ve got a poor quality camera or even just like the camera on your phone, generally what we see from the front end view is that the camera shutter speed, will take one shot here, one shot here and one shot here and the club might look like its blurring. The high speed cameras that we use when we're teaching will maybe get four or five frames in this section here and they will be a little bit tighter together so you can actually see the exact positions, and then we can freeze frame the impact position. But if you can get yourself a decent quality video camera, take the shot from front on. So position the camera, kind of where this one is, directly between the feet, bring the ball position to the normal place, and go ahead and hit half a dozen shots from this position, trying to hit them at full speed as well, so you get your normal full flowing golf swing. Trying to hit wedges, with mid irons and with hybrid clubs, and then review the tape and see what your impact position looks like and ideally what we would be looking for, is a position where the hands are always placed slightly ahead of the golf ball as the impact position is frozen. You also appreciate that your body weight should be in towards your front leg, the hip should be slightly open to target, the body should be slightly open to target as well, and we are turning through towards the target this way. It's not a replication of your set up position, set up is here, and impact position is here. You don’t set up here and hit here, it's going to be a turn through to impact. So if you could use a good quality video camera to freeze frame your impact position, you could be well on your way to improving your shaft and your bat impact.
