Troubleshooting The Golf Swing - Why Am I Not Firing The Club Down To Target (Video) - by Peter Finch

Through this video series, we've really kind of analyzed and explained what you want to be doing, and what you want to be seeing as you start to fire your club down towards the target. But what are the reasons why you might not be able to actually do this? Now we can start from the beginning and we can talk about low-half stability, maybe getting a bit more flexibility, a little bit more strength in the lower half. But one of the key reasons why I see quite consistently people not being able to fire the club down towards the target is what they're doing with their arms and their hands as they hit the shot.

It's a very common issue so many golfers have that when they're hitting their shots. Because the ball is on the ground, they want to try and get it up into the air. As people come through the ball, that club overtakes the hands. The arms break down and they try and help the ball off up into the air. It’s a perfectly natural thing to want to do. Because if the ball is on the ground, the most natural thing to want to do is try and get it up. However when we talk about firing this club down through, it isn't going to help you. So the first thing that you need to do is really try and ensure that as you're hitting the ball, the left arm, the left wrist and the club are in a nice straight line. There's no breaking down of that wrist as you are coming through. So that's coming in, in a nice straight line and then you can move it down towards your target. The second thing to do is focus on arm position. Because what you can often do is you can bypass this part of the swing by just focusing on this position here and what the arms are doing. So as you are coming through the ball and you're hitting if you just pause for a moment and your arms are in this position here, so they're in a retracted position. The elbows are bent and that club has moved in towards the body. What I want to remind [Phonetic] [0:01:54] you doing is really practicing and really focusing on hitting your shots, holding this position and just trying to get those arms stretching as much out and away from the body as you possibly can. So give those two things a go, and hopefully that will help troubleshoot any issues that you may be having with extending that club towards the target.
