When we look at the mental aspect of triggering the down swing we have to look at two key elements. One is that we have got to be positive about what we want to do. We have got to frame the idea of starting this down swing in a positive mind set of what we do want to achieve rather than what we want to avoid. So at the top of the back swing turned it back nicely to here I'm thinking I do want to pull my right elbow down. I do want to press into my left heel they're the kind of positive analogies that we want to use what we want to avoid is the negativity of the I don't want to. So you could say well I don't want to move my arm over this way or don't want to lean back on my back foot but because the way the brain in the body work we don't really process the don't particularly well. So when you say to yourself I don't want to do something that doesn't really work what you need to do is reaffirm the what do you want to do instead. So you could argue I don't want to come over because I do want to.

So the elbow coming down is the positive let's make sure we always reaffirm not in ourselves that we want the positive of what do you want to achieve. The next issue is we don't want to over think the goal trying not to be or could have just told you do this do this do this do this but actually when you go on the golf course and play we want to. Just take one or 2 key thoughts with us we don't have a 1000 thoughts running through our minds of standing over the ball thinking the finish then this then this then this by all means we're caught on the driving range. Thinking lots of different things on the range but by the time you get to the golf course hopefully you've got a few. So the crystal clear thoughts clarified in your mind about how you're going to hit this ball. So you've got a good set to the top nicely pull that right elbow in the trigger release everything threw the ball down into impact, and hopefully by having some clear thoughts framed in the positive context you'll have a nice sort of aggressive trigger downswing to improve your golf game.
