Swing Left to Hit the Ball Straight - Golf Tip (Video) - by Pete Styles

I think it’s fair to say that most of the time golfers would want to hit the golf ball straight. So the headline on the top of this tip about swinging left to hit the ball straight might leave you a little bit confused because you thinking, well the target is there I have got to hit in a straight line down there. But because the golf swing is a rotation reaction and we are stuck to the side of the golf ball is not an impossible to get the club to travel in a straight line for any sort of long period of time. Even with a putting stroke there is always going to be a little bit of inside squat inside. And as this white line demonstrates down the side of the mat if I put the ball on the mat there on the line the club is not travelling down the target line for very long at all, it’s travelling from the inside of the target line, square to the ball and then back to the inside. So during the follow through movement of the golf swing, the club is actually travelling to the left for quite a long time.

And soon as I hit that ball it should go left and actually a lot of your divots will point left, some people think that’s because it’s an over the top golf swing. But often it’s just because that’s the natural arc of the stroke, the natural arc of the swing. And actually a golfer who from here deliberately tries to hit in a straight line down the target line is effectively hitting a bit of a block, or a bit of pushing kind of golf swing, might result in some off angle and not accurate golf shots something with a lot of spin on the golf ball. So when you are making your normal swing don’t be afraid of feeling that the swing is around the body, square and then back around the body, and the feeling in the follow through is that the club should be allowed to come left, it isn’t going out here and open too wide you would be off balance with that and you will probably lose power as well. The club should be allowed to come left to a natural balance follow through position. So look at the headline again, swing left to hit straight golf shots and the arcing through the golf ball that’s the reason why it would feel like you’re actually swinging left.
