So, now we have established there are two types of strokes the straight back and straight through and the arc we can now look at the mechanics that go behind the straight back and straight through stroke. So, aiming up to this hole here if I take this pose of straight putt, there is probably bit of brake in this but if I take as a straight putt, I would like to see the club come straight back and straight through as much as possible. Now this is going to work better for a golfer who likes to get quite close to the golf ball. So, if I cozy up to the golf ball quite close, I get my eyes right over the top of the ball, I have quite a high hand position that’s going to work better for a straight back straight through motion.

Also might consider that the golfer who rocks from that shoulders quite nicely is going to be better straight back and straight through, you can see how the club comes straight down the target line, it doesn’t come left through here, so nice and close to the ball, straight back and straight through. A golfer who doesn’t have too much wrist hinges is also going to be nice and suitable for the stroke so straight back and straight through so we are not utilizing the wrist hinge at all. So, if you get quite near to the golf ball, you like to rock your shoulders to keep the club nicely on line and you don’t have a tendency to use your hand action at all through the ball, maybe the straight back and straight through motion is going to be better for yourself. Now the one thing I would encourage any golfer to do, particularly when they are adapting or changing the motion of their stroke, is to spend as much time as possible on the putting green prior to the round of golf, just making sure that you have checked your fundamentals and that you are straight back and straight through, rocking the shoulders, not using the hands too much and keeping a very stable head. And if that’s the type of stroke you are going to play, practicing it before you go out in the golf course is absolutely essential to better putting.
