Now during this little mini series that I’m going to do for you now, we’re going to talk a lot about rotation in the golf swing and how rotation is important in the golf swing to generate power but also to generate consistency. And there’s one thing you’ll often see that’s common amongst all of the golfers that you see playing well be it at your club or be it on television, doesn’t matter whether they’ve got slightly differently swing characteristics to each other.
The one common thing they all have is to get a good full shoulder turn. We’ll often see how the lead shoulder will actually position itself around underneath the chin during the backswing. And that’s something I would like you to start focusing on to make sure you get a full backswing rotation utilizing your lead shoulder coming under your chin. So from a good athletic setup position, we’re going to turn that lead shoulder around until it comes under the chin.
Now if the shoulder doesn’t quite get to the chin, we’d say that’s a little bit shallower rotation, not a big enough rotation. Therefore, we’re going to be short of power, we’re going to try and lump the ball down as far as we can. We’re probably not going to get the distance that we need but likewise if we make too big a rotation the shoulder comes around to the chin and then carries on further, we’d probably say it’s over rotated, the heel started to lift up, the shoulder has gone into the chin and lifted the body out of position. That could be too big a backswing motion.
So watching the next mini series here of videos and drills, we’re going to be working on how to get a correct shoulder rotation? What it should look like and how it will actually feel to do? And some drills to help you do it as well.
